Type design studio founded in 1991, specializing in custom typefaces for global brands including Amazon and Nokia.
Dalton Maag was founded in 1991 by Swiss typeface designer Bruno Maag and his wife Liz Dalton. After working at Monotype, Maag established the studio on principles of collaboration, openness, and excellence, seeking independence in the type design industry. What began as a small typeface design studio has grown into a global type foundry with a team of forty dedicated professionals.
The studio specializes in custom typeface design, working closely with clients to create bespoke fonts that embody their brand vision and become exclusive, owned assets. Notable projects include Bookerly, designed in 2015 as the default exclusive font for Amazon’s Kindle devices, and Nokia Pure, created for Finnish mobile phone company Nokia to replace Nokia Sans.
In 2012, Dalton Maag created the Rio 2016 Olympic Games brand font in collaboration with Brazilian design agency Tátil. The typeface took eight months to create and comprises 5,448 characters. The studio continues to enhance typographic expression for clients and agencies worldwide through logo refinement, licensing, and comprehensive custom font suites.
