Siegel+Gale was founded in 1969 by Alan Siegel and Robert Gale, who had previously worked together at Sandgren & Murtha. The company initially operated out of Siegel’s New York City apartment before growing into a global brand consultancy. Gale sold his share of the firm in 1974, with Siegel continuing to lead the agency’s expansion.
The firm pioneered the concept of simplification in corporate communications, particularly working with financial services companies to retool their forms and documents. Siegel co-founded a graduate program at Carnegie Mellon University to teach document simplification, establishing the firm’s philosophy that would become its corporate tagline: “Simple is smart.”
In 1988, Siegel & Gale became a wholly owned subsidiary of Saatchi & Saatchi before being acquired by Omnicom Group in 2003. The firm is now part of the Brand Consulting Group, a division of Omnicom, with headquarters in New York City and offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, Dubai, Shanghai, and Tokyo.
