The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), operating at aacr.org, is the world’s oldest and largest professional organization dedicated to advancing cancer research, founded on May 7, 1907 by 11 physicians and scientists. Headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at 615 Chestnut St., 17th Floor, the nonprofit organization has more than 61,000 members worldwide across 142 countries and territories, making it the first and largest cancer research organization globally.
The AACR’s mission is to prevent and cure cancer through research, education, communication, collaboration, science policy and advocacy, and funding for cancer research. The organization focuses on all aspects of cancer research, including basic, clinical, and translational research into the etiology, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer, advancing a scientifically bold agenda against the collection of diseases known as cancer.
AACR publishes a portfolio of top-tier, peer-reviewed journals through AACR Journals, covering the full spectrum of cancer science and medicine—from molecules to medicine, from proteomics to prevention. The organization’s grants program has awarded more than $542 million in grants to over 3,400 scientists since 1993, supporting researchers domestically and abroad at every career stage.
The AACR Annual Meeting is the focal point of the cancer research community, where scientists, clinicians, healthcare professionals, cancer survivors, patients, and advocates gather to share the latest advances in cancer science and medicine. The 2026 Annual Meeting took place April 17-22 at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California, highlighting breakthroughs from the best minds in cancer research worldwide.
