The team compete in EFL League Two, the fourth tier of the English football league system. They have played their home games at Brunton Park since 1909. The club’s traditional kit is blue with white and red detail, whilst the badge takes elements from the city’s coat of arms by including two wyverns. Formed in 1904, the club entered the Lancashire Combination the following year and were crowned Division Two champions in 1906–07. They entered the North Eastern League in 1910 and went on to win the league title in 1921–22, before being elected into the Football League in 1928.
